History

Metro North Community Development Corporation was founded in 2001 in Jacksonville, FL by a board of local business owners, neighborhood residents, and other strategic partners to revitalize the Greater Brentwood neighborhood. Their mission was to serve as the community’s “Chamber of Commerce,” identifying several new initiatives aimed at improving quality of life for everyone in the area. MNCDC received its initial certification as a Community-Based Housing Development Organization in 2002.

MNCDC has developed over 50 single-family homes and expanded into the commercial and multifamily development arenas. As a community development corporation, the organization is also responsible for helping to create several neighborhood and business associations, crime watch efforts, community clean-up and beautification programs, and a community garden. Recently, MNCDC began focusing on two new intensive community development strategies: The Block-by-Block Initiative: Housing + Health + Education = Transformation, and Repaint the Town.
